On Friday, the government sanctioned the transfer of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma back to his original Allahabad High Court in the cash overhaul case. He has been instructed to take up his role and oversee operations at the High Court in Uttar Pradesh.

This came one day after the government announced it was evaluating Justice Varma’s situation and would decide on his transfer within a day or two.

Moreover, the Centre has also approved the Supreme Court Collegium’s suggestion to transfer another judge from the Delhi High Court, Justice Chandra Dhari Singh, back to the Allahabad High Court, a decision that had been awaiting action for months.

In November 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium, under Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna and including Justices BR Gavai and Suryakant, suggested repatriating Justice Singh to his original court.

Justice Chandra Dhari Singh and Justice Yashwant Sharma both were moved to the Delhi High Court in October 2021.

After the retrieval of the cash stash from his home during a fire incident last week, the Collegium suggested Justice Varma’s transfer from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court. The registry of the Delhi High Court also removed judicial duties from Justice Varma.

However, the Supreme Court Collegium’s decision faced opposition from the Allahabad Bar Association, which initiated an indefinite strike. The organization stated it would not accept judges confronting corruption allegations.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
