Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, after visiting Srinagar in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, condemned the violence as an attempt to “divide society” and expressed deep sadness over reports of harassment and threats against Kashmiri citizens across India. He urged national unity against terrorism, emphasizing that the fight should not fuel attacks on innocent Kashmiris.
Gandhi visited the injured at the Indian Army hospital, offering condolences to the bereaved families. “This is a terrible tragedy,” he said. “I came here to understand the situation and offer support. The people of Jammu & Kashmir have condemned this act. The nation must stand as one with those who have suffered.”
“It’s deeply saddening to see my brothers and sisters from Kashmir facing attacks across the country,” Gandhi stated, stressing the importance of solidarity. He argued that the terror attack, aimed at dividing society, should not be used to justify targeting innocent Kashmiris. “We must stand united to fight this nasty action and defeat terrorism, not turn against our own.”
जिन लोगों ने अपने परिजनों को खोया… pic.twitter.com/wjqhsRjnx2

During his visit, he met with Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, assuring them of his party’s full support. He also reiterated the opposition’s united stance against terrorism, as expressed during the all-party meeting.
Gandhi argued that the intent of the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives, was to sow discord. He urged all Indians to resist this attempt. “It’s crucial that every Indian stands united and defeats what the terrorists are trying to do,” he said.
The attack, claimed by The Resistance Front, has significantly heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to diplomatic downgrades and escalating rhetoric. Gandhi’s focus on the plight of Kashmiri citizens aims to address the potential for communal backlash and ensure that the fight against terrorism does not lead to further division within the country.
