The Allahabad High Court has noted that despite live-in relationships lacking social sanction, the appeal they hold for young people necessitates the creation of a framework or solution to preserve the “moral values” of society.
Akash Keshari charged under IPC granted bail
Justice Nalin Kumar Srivastava noted this while granting bail to Akash Keshari from Varanasi, who was charged under several sections of the IPC and SC/ST Act for purportedly forming physical relations with a woman under the pretext of marriage.
Keshari reportedly declined to marry the person who contacted the Sarnath Police Station in Varanasi district.
“So far as the live-in relationship is concerned, it has got no social sanction but since the youth is attracted to such relations because a young person, male or female, can easily escape from his or her liability to his or her partner, their attraction is rapidly increasing in favour of such relations.
“It is high time we all thought and tried to find out some framework and solution to save the moral values of the society,” the court observed while granting bail to the applicant.

Previously, Keshari’s lawyer contended that the prosecution’s account was untrue since the woman was of legal age and their relationship was consensual.
It was further reported that she had a live-in relationship with the appellant for approximately six years and the purported abortion did not occur.
The attorney additionally stated that the defendant never made a promise to wed the woman.
