According to the government on Monday, banks will deactivate or blacklist FASTags with incomplete KYC after January 31, 2024.
“The NHAI has launched the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative, which aims to discourage user behavior of using single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle, in order to improve efficiency of the Electronic Toll Collection system and provide seamless movement at the toll plazas. In accordance with RBI guidelines, NHAI is also urging FASTag users to finish the “Know Your Customer” (KYC) process associated with their most recent FASTag by updating their KYC.
Banks will deactivate or blacklist FASTags with a valid balance but incomplete KYC after January 31, 2024, according to a statement from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
Users need to make sure that their latest FASTag’s KYC is finished in order to prevent any inconvenience. FASTag users are also required to follow the “One Vehicle, One FASTag” policy and destroy all previously issued FASTags via their individual banks.
After January 31, 2024, all previous FASTag accounts will be deactivated or blacklisted, leaving only the most recent account active. The ministry further stated that FASTag users can contact the closest toll plazas or toll-free customer care number of their individual issuer banks for additional help or questions.
The recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and FASTags being issued without KYC in violation of RBI’s mandate prompted NHAI to take this action. In addition, the ministry stated that FASTags are occasionally purposefully left off of vehicles’ windscreens, which causes needless delays at toll booths and annoyance to other drivers.
“With over 8 crore users and a penetration rate of about 98%, FASTag has completely transformed the nation’s Electronic Toll Collection system. The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative will help to make toll operations more efficient and ensure seamless & comfortable journeys for the National Highway users,” said MoRTH.
