Ratan Tata cremated following state funeral by Maharashtra government
Ratan Tata, an iconic figure in both industry and philanthropy, passed away on Wednesday and was cremated following a state funeral held by the Maharashtra government. The Parsi community observed traditional rituals for his funeral ceremony. His body was incinerated in an electric crematory.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hailed Tata as a “unique blend of morality and entrepreneurship”, and announced a day of mourning in the state to honor the industrialist on Thursday.
Tata’s mortal remains were placed at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point, south Mumbai, from 10.30 am to 4 pm on Thursday for the public to offer their condolences. His remains were later brought to the Worli crematorium for the final rituals.

Home Minister Amit Shah attends last rites on behalf of the Centre
Union Home Minister Amit Shah represented the Centre at the funeral of Ratan Tata. Amit Shah, along with Union Minister Piyush Goyal and other ministers, as well as top businessmen such as the Ambanis, attended the event.
The tricolour on government offices in Maharashtra will be lowered to half-mast as a mark of mourning, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). Entertainment events will also not take place.
In a X post, Eknath Shinde referred to Tata as a living legend who has effectively led the 150-year-old Tata Group for many years.
“Ratanji Tata was a living legend who successfully led the Tata Group with a tradition of excellence and integrity spanning nearly 150 years. The decisiveness and mental toughness he displayed time after time took the Tata Group to different industrial heights,” Shinde tweeted.

Maharashtra minister Deepak Kesarkar announced the cancellation of all state government events planned for Thursday.
PM Modi condoles demise of Ratan Tata
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sadness over the passing of Ratan Tata, describing him as a forward-thinking business leader and a kind-hearted person. The Prime Minister noted that Tata’s distinctive quality was his dedication to aiming high and contributing back to society.
“Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better,” PM Modi said.
