Kangana Ranaut’s newest release, Emergency, explores the period of 1975-1977 when Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister, declared Emergency in India. The movie did not have a successful start at the box office.
According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, the political drama earned merely Rs 2.35 crore (nett) in India on its release day.
The movie recorded a total Hindi occupancy of 19.26 percent, with the highest attendance in the night screenings.
The film saw the highest level of audience occupancy during its evening screenings, with an occupancy rate of 36.25% for the night shows. The morning programs attracted just 5.98% of viewers, whereas afternoon programs reached 13.95%, and evening programs recorded 20.86% attendance.

The initial figures of Emergency surpass Kangana’s previous releases. Her film Tejas (2023) made Rs 1.20 crore, while Dhaakad (2022) garnered Rs 55 lakh on its first day.
However, the movie stays among her least successful openings. Kangana secured the largest opening of her career in 2015 with her movie Tanu Weds Manu Returns, which generated Rs 8.85 crore at its debut.
Emergency signifies Kangana’s first venture as a solo director. Nonetheless, she subsequently stated that overseeing the film was a “mistake”. The movie features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and Mahima Chaudhary in crucial roles. The reaction to the film has been varied.
