Notices sent under section 77 of the Representation of the People Act
The fact that party bosses have been held responsible for infractions in a campaign speech for the first time is also noteworthy. Parties are called upon to control their remarks since Section 77 of the Representation of People Act permits them to designate “star campaigners.”
“Star campaigners,” such as Prime Minister Modi and Rahul Gandhi, are expected to contribute to a greater quality of debate, which occasionally gets twisted in the heat of local elections, according to a two-page statement released by the ECI this morning.

At the same time he had demanded the Election Commission to take action on this issue.
The BJP on Monday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of making false claims about increasing poverty in the country and appealed to the Election Commission to take “strict action” against him. While filing a complaint in the Election Commission, the saffron party had also accused Gandhi of dividing the country into North-South on the basis of language and region to spoil the election atmosphere.
