IGI Airport, New Delhi, 23 August, 2023: In another effort to combat narcotic drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recently arrested a Kenyan passenger who had arrived from Nairobi at the IGI Airport in New Delhi on Wednesday.
When asked, the passenger denied having any illegal items with them. However, after inspecting their luggage, DRI officers discovered around 1,698 grams of cocaine with an estimated value of roughly Rs. 17 crore on the black market. The passenger had an air ticket for a flight to Mumbai departing in a few hours, suggesting that the delivery of the illegal substance was intended for Mumbai.

After a thorough investigation and surveillance, DRI officers executed a well-planned operation that led to the successful arrest of the individual who was intended to receive the illegal drugs. The recipient, a Kenyan woman, was apprehended in the Vasai region of Mumbai.
According to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985, both the sender and receiver have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
Between January and July 2023, the DRI successfully seized 42 shipments of cocaine and heroin throughout the country. In total, the officers were able to confiscate 31 kg of cocaine and 96 kg of heroin during this period.
