India captain Rohit Sharma hit the ground in frustration after dropping a simple catch at first slip on Thursday, February 20. Rohit’s missed catch prevented spinner Axar Patel from achieving what might have been his first hat-trick in ODI cricket.
Axar Patel delivered an outstanding initial spell during India’s opening group-stage game versus Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium.
In his first over, Axar took the wickets of Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. With Axar dominating against Bangladesh, India skipper Rohit Sharma positioned three slips to optimize the spinner’s chances of securing the third wicket.
Rohit and Shubman Gill took the first and second slip positions, while Shreyas Iyer was positioned at leg slip. Axar, who had Bangladesh in turmoil, delivered another beautiful ball just outside off, snatching the outside edge of Jaker Ali.
The thick edge went directly to the first slip where the India captain stood. Rohit had plenty of time to reach for the ball on his left but ultimately wasted the opportunity.
