Police announced on Saturday that a case has been filed against Congress Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi in Jamnagar, Gujarat, due to a video he shared on social media, reportedly deemed communal and inflammatory.

According to a complaint submitted to the police, the former Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Gujarat Assembly recently participated in a mass wedding in Jamnagar.

Pratapgarhi posted a video of himself at the event on his X account, featuring a song with allegedly provocative lyrics playing in the background.

“The national chairman of the Congress’ minority cell was booked on a complaint lodged by a Jamnagar resident after he posted a video on X in the context of a mass marriage function he attended in on December 29,” said Superintendent of Police Premsukh Delu.

The FIR mentions that the song included in the video contains some offensive and provocative language that upset social media users, prompting strong reactions to the Congress leader’s post.

“Apart from other relevant sections, we have also invoked section 57 of the BNS which pertains to instigating 10 or more people to commit a crime and attracts a jail term of up to seven years. We will take all required legal action against him,” Delu said.

The complainant claimed that Imran Pratapgarhi’s post incited communal animosity and violence, inflaming the religious feelings of individuals.

Acknowledging the complaint, Jamnagar Police has filed a case against Pratapgarhi under Section 57 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Authorities have initiated an inquiry regarding the issue.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
