India observes Army Day on January 15 of each year. The day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers on behalf of their nation. In addition, Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa, who succeeded General FRR Bucher, the final Indian Army chief to serve under the British, as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of Independent India in 1949, is celebrated on Army Day.
The Cariappa Parade Ground in the Delhi Cantonment was the site of the Army Day parade from 1949 until 2022. Every year, the marching contingents that participate in the Republic Day Parade are inspected by the Chief of Army Staff.

To celebrate the 76th Army Day of the Indian Army, a grand parade will take place today in Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. For the second year in a row, the Army Day parade has been relocated outside of Delhi. The previous year’s parade took place at Bengaluru’s Parade Ground of the MED & Center.
On Monday, the Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, sent his best wishes for 76th Army Day. General Manoj Pandey honored soldiers who gave their lives in defense of the country during his speech to the troops. “I extend my congratulations and best wishes to all Indian Army ranks, as well as to civilian staff, veterans, and their families, on the occasion of Army Day 2024. We honor and sincerely remember our friends who have given their lives to defend the country. We will always be inspired by their ultimate sacrifice,” he declared.

The ‘Best Marching Contingent’ chosen by artificial intelligence will make this year’s Army Day parade extra special. For the first time, artificial intelligence is being used to determine which marching contingent is best, according to Major General Salil Seth.

Drills are performed by all marching contingents, but they all follow the same pattern: you raise your hands and legs to a specific height and execute your movement with the weapon within a set amount of time. Using a camera to record each movement, computer software with artificial intelligence will assign a mark to each movement. Human oversight will also be provided for this. We’ve practiced two or three times,” the officer continued.
