According to sources, a high-level meeting is being chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday to address the escalating violence in Manipur. This signified the second day in a row of discussions overseen by the Home Minister regarding the state’s security issues.
The Home Ministry has chosen to increase security presence in Manipur due to ongoing tensions in the area. At the meeting, the Home Minister inspected the security deployment in Manipur and instructed Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and state police officials to ensure peace and order in the region.
The Center is sending 50 more companies of CAPF to the state. This follows a previous deployment of 20 companies, increasing the total number of CAPF units to 70 currently being activated to maintain law and order in the state.

New demonstrations broke out in Manipur on Saturday (November 16) following the deaths of six individuals whose bodies were discovered in Jiribam district, reportedly abducted by militants.
After the demonstrations, a curfew was enforced in Imphal West and Imphal East in conflict-ridden Manipur, with internet services being halted in seven districts.
Protests and violence intensified in Manipur on Sunday, leading to the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old in Jiribam district by security forces trying to quell the crowd.
Following instructions from the Union Home Ministry, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assumed control of the investigation into three cases related to the recent unrest in Manipur.
The initial incident involves a conflict between the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Kuki insurgents in the Jiribam district, leading to a gunfight. In the clash, a minimum of 11 Kuki militants were killed.

State officials have stated that they have implemented internet restrictions in Jiribam and Pherazwal districts of Manipur for the following two days.
“Total curfew has been immediately clamped in the town until further orders. Internet and mobile data services have been suspended for 02 days immediately. SsP/ COs have been deployed on the ground to manage the law-and-order situation,” the Manipur Police said.
