After a meeting at its headquarters in Tamil Nadu on Monday, the AIADMK severed ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), claiming that the saffron party had been making “unnecessary remarks about AIADMK’s former leaders.”
This came after Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai’s controversial remarks about former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravidian icon CN Annadurai.
In response to the AIADMK breaking alliance with the BJP, Annamalai told news agency ANI, “I will speak to you later, I don’t speak during Yatra. I will speak later.”
The AIADMK, led by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, said it would lead a separate front for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
“AIADMK unanimously passed a resolution in the meeting. AIADMK is breaking all ties with the BJP and the NDA alliance from today. The state leadership of the BJP has been continuously making unnecessary remarks about our former leaders, our general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and our cadres for the past one year,” said AIADMK’s K P Munusamy, as quoted by ANI.
