Officials said the confiscated drugs and materials carry an estimated worth of ₹8 crore in the international narcotics trade, underlining the scale of the smuggling racket operating through the Imphal Valley. Situated about 25 kilometers from Imphal, Thoubal serves as a vital hub connecting different parts of the valley. The district is predominantly inhabited by the Meiteis, with a significant population of Meitei Pangals (Muslims), especially concentrated in areas like Lilong, which is famous for its vibrant market and cultural life.
