Night shelters at Sarai Kale Khan will be relocated only with Supreme Court approval, as Delhi clears a crucial step for building one of India’s most ambitious transport integration projects.

A significant obstacle in the redevelopment of ISBT Sarai Kale Khan and its integration with the RRTS corridor has been cleared. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the allotment of 2.5 acres (10,430 sq. m.) of land, currently under the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

This NOC paves the way for a major infrastructure upgrade, enabling seamless integration of the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) with the Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, and the upcoming RRTS station—transforming Sarai Kale Khan into one of the capital’s largest multi-modal transit hubs.

The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) had formally requested the land on 02.02.2024. The parcel has been confirmed to be encroachment-free and is not subject to any legal disputes.

Currently, three night shelters operate on the site. As per a Supreme Court directive dated 09.05.2023, these cannot be relocated without judicial consent. DUSIB has committed to approaching the court for permission to shift these shelters to a nearby location. DTIDC has also assured that the redevelopment will include permanent, improved shelter facilities for the affected residents.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
