The brutal killing of Hindu minority leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy has sent shockwaves and ignited fear among the numerous Bangladeshi Hindus. Despite the repeated assaults on minorities in Bangladesh, the top authorities have kept a close eye and failed to stop the incidents.

On Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly condemned the abduction and murder of Hindu leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur district, stating that it reflects a trend of “systematic persecution of Hindu minorities.” Roy, a villager from Basudebpur, was kidnapped from his home and killed by goons on Friday.

Perpetrators continue to roam with impunity: MEA

MEA noted that the recent attacks on minorities show a trend of systematic persecution and such incidents continue to occur every now and then and the perpetrators of such crimes continue to roam freely without fear of being punished.

“We have noted with distress the abduction and brutal killing of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a Hindu minority leader in Bangladesh. This killing follows a pattern of systematic persecution of Hindu minorities under the interim government, even as the perpetrators of previous such events roam with impunity,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X.

In a firmly articulated statement, the External Affairs Ministry denounced the incident and reminded the interim government of Bangladesh to “live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities, including Hindus, without inventing excuses or making distinctions.”

The brutal killing of Bhabesh Chandra Roy

The vice-president of the Biral unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and a prominent Hindu leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy was abducted from his home on Friday. According to his wife, Bhabesh was kidnapped by bike-borne attackers following a phone call on Friday. Onlookers observed him being taken to Naxalbari village, where he was viciously beaten to death.

The assailants allegedly sent his unresponsive body to his residence in a vehicle. Family members, assisted by locals, hurried Bhabesh to a health complex, and he was subsequently taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where the on-call doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Congress Party condemns the brutal killing of Bhabesh

The Congress party likewise denounced the brutal murder of Roy and stated it served as a horrifying reminder of the increasing feeling of vulnerability among religious minorities in Bangladesh.

The Congress appealed to the Indian government to address the issue with utmost urgency and press the interim government in Bangladesh to guarantee a prompt and transparent inquiry and hold the offenders accountable.

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
