On Thursday, the 64th City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru denied the bail request of actor Ranya Rao, who was apprehended related to a gold smuggling case.

The 33-year-old actress was detained on March 3 for carrying 14.5 kg of gold at the airport while coming back from Dubai. A Karnataka investigative committee examining protocol breaches and negligence is expected to present its findings today regarding the case.

This is the third occasion that Rao’s request for bail has been denied. On March 14, a Special Court for Economic Offences denied her bail application. According to reports, her legal team is now getting ready to file for bail in the Karnataka High Court.

Ranya Rao was apprehended at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on March 3, after coming back from Dubai, where gold bars valued at Rs 12.56 crore were confiscated. Additional searches at her home uncovered gold ornaments valued at Rs 2.06 crore and Indian cash totaling Rs 2.67 crore. While being interrogated, Ranya confessed that the funds for buying the gold were sent via hawala networks.

The court had previously instructed the DRI to submit its objections to the actor’s bail application prior to today’s hearing. It informed the court that Rao admitted that funds for buying gold were transferred via hawala dealings.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
