According to the police’s First Information Report (FIR), rioters in Nagpur attempted to assault a female official who was addressing the clashes on March 17. The FIR stated that the mob also directed vulgar gestures and remarks at other female police officers.
The FIR mentioned that the protesters wielded harmful weapons such as axes, stones, and Molotov cocktails to assault law enforcement and instill fear in the vicinity.
The FIR, obtained by CNN-News18, listed 51 individuals along with 500-600 unidentified offenders.
As stated in the FIR, the official was inappropriately groped while attempting to manage the violence.
The FIR also outlined how insults were directed at the police and members of the Hindu community.
According to the FIR, members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) initially conducted an ‘andolan’, while it notes that a different group participated in an agitation afterward.
Several female police officers sustained injuries during the unrest as demonstrators threw stones at vehicles and motorcycles.

HOW THE CLASHES ERUPTED?
The violence broke out after reports suggested that the sacred text of a community was set on fire during a protest by a right-wing group seeking the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb, officials told news agency PTI.
According to an official police statement, on March 17, approximately 200 to 250 members of the VHP and Bajrang Dal assembled near the Shivaji Maharaj statue in Mahal, Nagpur, to back the removal of Aurangzeb’s grave.
The demonstrators shouted chants calling for the removal of the grave and exhibited a symbolic green cloth covered with cow dung cakes.
Subsequently, at 7:30 pm, approximately 80 to 100 individuals allegedly assembled in Bhaldarpura, generating unrest and disturbing public order.
