West Bengal Governor meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah today to talk about the current events in the state following the rape and murder of a Kolkata trainee doctor at RG Kar hospital.
Sources indicate that the Governor will offer in-depth information about the present state of affairs in West Bengal.
Demonstrations broke out across the country, especially in Kolkata, in response to the rape and murder of the trainee doctor, as protestors called for prompt action in the matter. In Kolkata, university students protesting on August 27, were at the forefront as crowds broke through barricades established by security forces to call for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her handling of the case.

Governor previously briefed President and Vice President on the RG Kar incident
Yesterday evening, the governor arrived in Delhi for the planned meeting. Governor CV Ananda Bose briefed President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar last week on the RG Kar incident and the events that followed in the state.

The woman postgraduate trainee’s body was discovered in a seminar hall at the hospital on the morning of August 9. The following day saw the apprehension of civic volunteer Sanjay Roy in relation to the crime.
Both the Kolkata Police and the hospital administration faced backlash for their handling of the trainee doctor’s case, as the Supreme Court pointed out the 14-hour delay in filing the FIR.
The case is now being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
