Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal sent to judicial custody till July 12

A Delhi court accepted the CBI’s request on Saturday and remanded Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal in judicial custody for 14 days in connection with a money laundering case relating to the alleged liquor policy scam.

The AAP head will remain in jail till July 12 and will be brought before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court again at roughly 2 p.m. via video conference.

The court judgment came hours after the federal investigative agency requested a 14-day judicial remand for Kejriwal, claiming that his confinement was necessary in the “interest of the investigation and justice”.

Sunena Sharma, Special Judge, postponed the ruling on the plea after Kejriwal was brought before the court after his three-day police custody period expired.

Kejriwal did not cooperate during interrogation: CBI

The CBI alleged in its remand motion that Arvind Kejriwal refused to participate during prison interrogation. The investigation agency further claimed that Kejriwal intentionally supplied evasive responses that contradicted the data on record.

“On being confronted with the evidence, he did not give a proper and truthful explanation regarding the enhancement of the profit margin for wholesalers from 5 per cent to 12 per cent under the new excise policy of Delhi 2021-22, without any study or justification,” it said.

The CBI motion also accused Kejriwal of avoiding inquiries concerning his colleague Vijay Nair’s dealings with various stakeholders in Delhi’s liquor sector. It also stated that Kejriwal struggled to provide sufficient answers for his encounters with Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, as well as the accused Arjun Pandey and Mootha Gautham.
During the hearing, Kejriwal’s lawyer, advocate Vikram Chaudhary, informed the court that the inquiry into the alleged liquor policy scam has been ongoing since 2022.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
