According to Reuters, at least 35 individuals died and approximately 43 others were hurt when a vehicle lost control and crashed into a crowd outside a sports center in Zhuhai, a city in southern China.
The 62-year-old driver was apprehended shortly after the event that occurred on Monday night.
A confirmed video of the hit-and-run event displayed multiple individuals lying on the pavement. As the ambulances came to take the wounded to the hospital, shouts of ‘terrorist’ echoed in the background. In one of the clips, a woman is heard saying, “My foot is broken.”
The suspect, known by the surname Fan, was apprehended by police for intentionally driving a compact vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians outside a sports center at 7.48 pm local time (11.48 am GMT) and then escaping the location.
The police announcement indicated that the vehicle struck “several” pedestrians on Monday night. Officials have not yet revealed a reason for the event.

The Sports Center in Xiangzhou City District consistently draws hundreds of locals who utilize its amenities for pursuits like jogging on the track, participating in soccer, and enjoying social dancing.
The accident took place a day before a major airshow, organised by People’s Liberation Army (PLA), opened in Zhuhai.
This week, Zhuhai is holding China’s largest annual air show, featuring a new stealth jet fighter being showcased for the first time.
