Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his willingness to personally help as a friend in any peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine. Modi made this statement while in the company of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Friday.
This is a significant effort by Modi to reach a peace agreement between the two countries that are in conflict and have been visited by him within a short span of six weeks. I want to reassure you that India is prepared to actively participate in all peace initiatives.
“If I have the opportunity to contribute personally, I would be happy to do it. I promise you this as a friend,” Modi assured Zelenskyy. The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of territorial integrity and informed Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow that no resolution can be reached through military means,” he said.
Modi emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy, urging both sides to make progress on this front.”
‘India is a land of Buddha & Gandhi’
The Prime Minister stated that he arrived with a message of peace and emphasized that India, the homeland of Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, symbolized peace. Modi stated that our strategy is to support peace and avoid conflict.
Additionally, the foreign minister S Jaishankar mentioned that Modi had conveyed to Zelenskyy that they were ready to offer support in any manner, whether openly or discreetly, in order to achieve the desired objective rather than focusing on the specific process. We believe that the ongoing conflict is both harmful for Ukraine and the rest of the world.

Modi expressed distress at seeing children die in the conflict, emphasizing that innocent children are often the first victims of war, causing great pain. Modi stated that in any civilized society that values human rights, such events are not tolerated. He hugged Zelenskyy and rested his arm on the Ukrainian President’s shoulder to convey an important message.
Jaishankar then mentioned that these actions were a reflection of Indian customs, noting that Modi had also greeted various other global leaders in the past. This comment was made in response to criticism from Zelenskyy about Modi embracing Vladimir Putin in July.
