Women’s T20 WC 2024: Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 31 runs on Thursday
Sri Lanka, champions of the Asia Cup 2024, suffered a defeat of 31 runs against Pakistan in a tightly contested match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on Thursday, October 3rd. Meanwhile, Pakistan has begun their Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a victory.
The long history of competition between Sri Lanka and Pakistan lived up to the expectations. The Pakistan captain put on a strong performance in the low-scoring match, excelling with both batting and bowling.
While chasing a small target of 117 on a sluggish Sharjah pitch, Sri Lanka could only score 85 runs. The spinners from Pakistan slowed down the pace, causing difficulties for Sri Lanka, and Sadia Iqbal stood out as the top bowler with figures of 3/17.

Pakistan begin campaign on a high note
The Pakistan women’s team chose to bat first after winning the toss, as the captain anticipated the slow-paced pitch would be beneficial, which proved to be correct.
Captain Fatima Sana came to the rescue when it seemed like Pakistan be restricted by their opponents to a low total of 100. She emerged and made played some important shots to provide her team with an opportunity to compete in the match. The Sri Lankan spin bowlers performed exceptionally well, putting pressure on the Pakistan middle batsmen with Chamari Athaththu and Sugandhika Kumari taking three wickets each, supported by Prabodhani.
In the 3rd over, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana took a crucial wicket by dismissing Chamari Athapaththu, who scored six before being out. Omaima Sohail took two wickets in her initial two overs, causing Sri Lanka to struggle at 35/3. Next, Nashra Sandhu demonstrated her skill by taking two wickets in just two overs. Sri Lanka’s runs dried up entirely, leaving them at 52/5.
