New Delhi, August 4, 2025: The sudden and mysterious death of Sunjay Kapur in London has triggered an international investigation and intensified a bitter dispute within the Kapur family, founders of auto component giant Sona Comstar.
Rani Kapur, Sunjay’s mother and co-founder of Sona Comstar, has formally approached British authorities, calling for a full investigation into what she describes as the “unexplained circumstances” of her son’s death. According to sources quoted by ANI, she has lodged an official criminal complaint with UK police, citing concerns that the incident may involve foul play.
In her statement, Rani Kapur claims to possess credible evidence suggesting that her son’s death may not have been natural or accidental, and could potentially involve murder, conspiracy, and forgery. The case has also drawn the attention of U.S. authorities, as Sunjay Kapur was a U.S. citizen.

She also spoke of her and her late husband’s role in building Sona Comstar from the ground up. Challenging the company’s stance that she has had no role since 2019, she said, “I am here to remind the world that our family’s legacy must not be lost. It must be passed on, as my husband always wanted it to be.”
The family discord took a public turn after Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd, the listed entity of the group, dismissed Rani Kapur’s claims in a regulatory filing, calling them “baseless” and “legally untenable.” The company reiterated that she has held no position or authority within the organization for the past five years.

Before making her concerns public, Rani Kapur reportedly wrote to the board, alleging that she was coerced into signing key documents shortly after her son’s death—an act she described as “highly suspicious.” She also claimed she was denied access to her finances and left dependent on a few individuals. According to her, no one currently represents the Kapur family on the company’s board.
Despite her appeal to postpone the Annual General Meeting, the company proceeded as scheduled. In response, Sona Comstar issued a legal notice warning her against spreading “false and damaging information,” firmly rejecting all allegations as “malafide, false, unwarranted, and uncorroborated.”
While Rani Kapur has indicated she will no longer issue public statements due to age and health issues, she confirmed that her legal team will pursue the matter further—suggesting that the legal and emotional battle surrounding her son’s death and the future of Sona Comstar is far from over.
