A Journey of Steady Ascent
Keymer’s chess journey began at the age of five when his parents taught him the game. By 11, he was already winning tournaments, earning praise from none other than Garry Kasparov in 2016. A year later, he achieved the Grandmaster title, and since then, his rise through the elite ranks has been relentless.
Earlier this year, Keymer stunned the chess world by winning the Weissenhaus Freestyle Chess Grand Slam on home soil, defeating heavyweights Alireza Firouzja, Magnus Carlsen, and Fabiano Caruana in consecutive knockout games.
“Strongest Classical Tournament I Have Ever Won”
Reflecting on his Chennai success, a delighted Keymer said:
“It means a lot. Yeah, it’s very important I think it’s the strongest classical tournament I have ever won, and also winning it with one round to go and quite some distance is really, really nice.”
Despite sealing the title early, Keymer is not letting complacency set in.
“I’m just gonna try to not ruin my performance tomorrow, and then I can really call it a very nice tournament. That will really leave a good feeling for the upcoming events,” he added.

Eyes on Sustained Excellence
The eighth-round clash with van Foreest was arguably Keymer’s toughest test of the event, but he emerged unscathed, cementing his dominance. Now a member of the world’s top 10, the young German’s focus is firmly on maintaining his position among chess’s elite.
With his Chennai victory, Keymer has further solidified his status as one of the brightest young stars in the global chess arena and his ambitions show no sign of slowing down.
