Varun Chakravarthy ran through the England middle order during the first T20I of 5-match series on Wednesday, January 22. The enigmatic spinner, competing at his Indian Premier League home venue, took the wickets of Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone within a span of three deliveries, putting England in significant trouble.
On Wednesday, Varun toppled the stumps of both batters, showcasing his remarkable ‘overspin’ skills. He tricked Brook and Livingstone while bowling, penetrating the defenses of both batsmen.
Varun’s wickets supported Arshdeep Singh’s energetic opening spell and assisted India in dismissing four of England’s batsmen within the initial 10 overs of the match.
Varun, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, continued his affection for Eden Gardens. In spite of the dewy conditions, Varun managed to give India control of the match when Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel had bowled costly overs.
Varun’s first wicket was Harry Brook, on the third delivery of the 8th over. Brook’s unfortunate experience in India persisted as he primarily battled against spin.
In contrast, Livingstone couldn’t decipher Varun’s delivery and got bowled through the gap while trying to execute a cover drive. Varun delivered his wrong’un to Livingstone, and the batsman was perplexed as the ball approached him.
