The manufacturing plant, with a total investment of approximately Rs 1500 crore in two phases, will have a production capacity of 2500 buses per year, which is planned to be increased to 5000 buses later. The proposed integrated manufacturing unit will be partially constructed on the now-defunct Scooters India site in Lucknow, close to the airport.

What’s more in Uttar Pradesh’s First EV Plant?

Leading truck and bus maker Ashok Leyland is expected to commence the construction work for its greenfield factory in Uttar Pradesh (UP) early next fiscal. The Hinduja flagship has proposed to invest ₹1,000 crore over some time. The new factory will manufacture electric and ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles, producing electric buses, electric light commercial vehicles, and other vehicles powered by various fuels such as diesel, CNG, and hydrogen.

Ashok Leyland will invest in the project, and the factory will cater to the requirements of both Ashok Leyland and Switch Mobility, the company’s electric vehicle (EV) arm.

The choice of Uttar Pradesh as the location for the factory is driven by the State’s ambitious net-zero targets, making it a significant market for EVs in the future. The company also aims to change the brand perception by investing in diverse regions nationwide.

Ashok Leyland’s market share in the northern region has seen significant growth, with the company gaining a good share in the north, central, western, and eastern regions. The company’s international presence has expanded despite subdued market conditions in the past two years.

Launching the EV manufacturing plant in Lucknow is a significant step towards contributing to Uttar Pradesh’s net-zero targets and Ashok Leyland’s pan-India growth strategy.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
