Officials reported that at least 23 individuals have been rescued, while around 25 others are believed to be trapped following the collapse of a roof slab under construction at the Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
Police and rescue teams, including with a group from the State Disaster Response Force, are onsite, and efforts are underway to save the trapped workers. The individuals who were saved have been hurried to the hospital for care.
Kanpur Commissioner K Vijayendra Pandian stated that among the 23 individuals rescued, five sustained serious injuries, but they are now safe.
“We hope that no one else is trapped, but we are searching thoroughly,” he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Kannauj District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukl was reported by news agency PTI stating that the incident took place when the roof’s under-construction shuttering gave way.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath acknowledged the accident and instructed officials to swiftly arrive at the location and enhance relief operations. He also instructed the officials to guarantee adequate care for the individuals hurt in the event.
