In a unique attempt to take aim at President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump staged a memorable stunt on a rainy Wednesday in Wisconsin. Emerging from his personal Boeing 757 emblazoned with his name, Trump made his way across the rain-soaked tarmac, clambering—after two attempts—into the passenger seat of a white garbage truck. Wearing a bright orange and yellow safety vest over his signature red tie, Trump waved to the press before quipping, “How do you like my garbage truck? This is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.”
Once inside the garbage truck’s cabin, Trump fielded questions from reporters, where he distanced himself from recent controversial comments by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who had made an ill-received joke about Puerto Rico during Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden. Hinchcliffe’s remark, calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage,” sparked outrage from Democrats and prominent Latino figures, particularly among Puerto Rican communities in Pennsylvania—a key swing state.

“I love Puerto Rico, and Puerto Rico loves me,” Trump declared from his unusual podium. “I hope you enjoyed this garbage truck. Thank you very much,” he added, wrapping up his remarks with a thumbs-up.
The controversy surrounding the Puerto Rico joke didn’t stop there. President Joe Biden, responding to the uproar, defended Puerto Rican communities. “I don’t know the Puerto Rican that I know… or Puerto Rico, where I am—in my home state of Delaware—they’re good, decent, honorable people,” Biden said, allegedly adding, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.” This comment, taken by some as a swipe at Trump’s base, led to backlash from various quarters accusing Biden of insulting Americans.
As criticism mounted, Biden took to social media to clarify, explaining, “Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it.”
In a parting note, Trump reiterated his disapproval of the comedian’s remarks, stating he didn’t know Hinchcliffe personally and wouldn’t have chosen him as a speaker if he’d known about his “nasty jokes.”
