President-elect Donald Trump has come to the defense of former Congressman Matt Gaetz, calling a House Ethics Committee report detailing serious allegations against him “very unfair.” The report accuses Gaetz of misconduct ranging from illicit payments and drug use to statutory rape, sparking widespread controversy. Despite the mounting evidence, Gaetz denies all accusations, claiming the investigation is politically motivated.

President-elect Donald Trump has expressed support for former Congressman Matt Gaetz, despite serious allegations of misconduct, including illicit payments, drug-fueled parties, and involvement with a minor. Gaetz, once Trump’s top choice for Attorney General in his new administration, withdrew from consideration following the emergence of these scandals.

Gaetz recently shared a handwritten note from Trump describing a House Ethics Committee report into the allegations as “very unfair.” Gaetz posted a photo of the note, written on a printed article from The Federalist, on X, with the caption, “I got a great note from President Trump.”
Trump, who himself has faced allegations of molestation and sexual misconduct in the past, has encountered severe backlash on social media platforms for supporting the disgraced Republican.
The Ethics Committee’s long-awaited report, released Monday, concluded there was “substantial evidence” that Gaetz violated House rules. The accusations include engaging in prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, accepting impermissible gifts, granting special favors, and obstructing Congress.
The investigation, spanning over two years, alleges Gaetz paid more than $100,000 to about a dozen women over a three-year period, often through mobile payment apps. Testimonies and financial records suggest these payments were tied to sexual activities and, in some cases, the use of drugs like ecstasy during extravagant, drug-fueled gatherings.

One of the most severe allegations involves Gaetz’s alleged relationship with a 17-year-old in 2017. The report claims Gaetz paid the minor for sexual activities and supplied her with drugs. These findings, corroborated by financial records and witness statements, suggest potential violations of statutory rape laws. Gaetz has consistently denied the allegations, calling them politically motivated attempts to derail his career.
In response to the report, Gaetz posted a series of denials on X, claiming some of the funds linked to prostitution were actually gifts to a romantic partner. “Giving funds to someone you are dating — that they didn’t ask for — and that isn’t ‘charged’ for sex is now prostitution?!?” he wrote. He also accused the Ethics Committee of releasing the report shortly before Christmas to avoid legal scrutiny.
Trump’s note to Gaetz was written on a printed article by The Federalist editor-in-chief Mollie Hemingway, titled: “House Probe Into Matt Gaetz Relies On Witness DOJ Found Lacked Credibility.” The article criticized the Ethics Committee report, arguing it relied heavily on “two central witnesses” whose credibility was previously questioned by the Department of Justice.
