November 3, 2025: A devastating road accident in Telangana’s Vikarabad district claimed at least 16 lives and left eight others injured early Monday morning when a gravel-laden tipper truck collided head-on with a state-run RTC bus on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway near Mirjaguda in Chevella mandal.

According to Chevella ACP B. Kishan, the RTC bus had started from Tandur and was bound for Chevella when the speeding truck rammed into it. “We can confirm that 16 people, including the truck driver and several passengers, have died. Rescue operations are still ongoing,” the officer said.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the truck’s load of gravel spilled onto the bus, crushing several passengers inside. The bus was carrying around 40 passengers at the time of the accident. Emergency responders and locals worked together to remove the injured and trapped victims from the mangled vehicles.

Rajendranagar DCP Yogesh Goutam said the truck appeared to be in the wrong lane when it crashed. “We are investigating whether the driver was attempting to overtake or driving against the flow of traffic. The exact cause will be established after technical analysis,” he stated.

Traffic on the busy Bijapur highway was brought to a standstill for several hours as rescue teams cleared debris and shifted victims to hospitals in Chevella and Hyderabad.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep grief over the tragedy and directed senior officials to rush to the site. In a post on X, the Chief Minister said he had instructed the Chief Secretary and DGP to ensure immediate evacuation of the injured to Hyderabad for specialized treatment. “All possible relief and medical support must be provided without delay,” his statement read.

IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu also expressed anguish over the loss of lives, calling it a “heart-wrenching tragedy.” He held a teleconference with senior district and health officials to coordinate rescue and relief measures. The minister directed authorities to personally supervise operations, ensure the best medical care for survivors, and keep families of victims informed.

Police teams have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation. Preliminary reports suggest driver negligence or fatigue could have contributed to the collision.

By late morning, rescue operations had concluded, and the bodies of the deceased were shifted to Chevella Government Hospital for identification and post-mortem examinations. The state government has assured financial assistance to the families of the deceased and injured.

What began as a routine morning commute turned into one of the region’s deadliest road accidents in recent months, leaving Telangana in mourning.
