Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, reportedly instructed one of his team members, referred to as ‘employee B,’ to assist David Coleman Headley, the main conspirator of the attacks, with planning and various types of support, NIA sources told on Sunday.
The NIA, holding him for 18 days following his extradition from the United States, is expected to confront him with ‘employee B’ to gather further details regarding the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Nevertheless, sources within the NIA indicated that ’employee B’ was unaware of the terror plans. He was instructed solely to manage tasks such as picking up Headley, organizing travel, arranging accommodation, and offering a work and living space — as per Rana’s directives.
NIA sources stated that Rana used his immigration business to assist Headley with visas, conceal his Pakistani-Muslim identity, and integrate into Indian business and military communities. He also arranged Headley’s flight from Karachi and assisted in preparing documents for his Moroccan wife.
The NIA chargesheet additionally states that Rana was in contact with another conspirator, ‘Major Iqbal’.
Rana was sent back to India from the US on April 10 and was placed in NIA custody for 18 days, where he is being questioned about the Mumbai terror attacks scheme.
He is confronted with multiple charges in India, such as conspiracy, forgery, murder, and terrorism.
The current questioning centers on multiple facets, such as his involvement in the attacks, his connections to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and the ISI’s part in the incidents that resulted in the deaths of more than 160 individuals.
