Australia’s Travis Head once again proved to be a challenging opponent for India, as he scored his second consecutive century in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and the third against this nation, helping his team gain a strong advantage in the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Only days after Head led Australia to a convincing 10-wicket victory in Adelaide during the pink ball Test, where he made 140 off 141 balls, the Aussie replicated his performance against his preferred rival to achieve another century.
This marked Head’s ninth Test hundred, achieved in 115 deliveries with 13 fours to his name. Three of his career centuries in this format were made against India in the recent fourth Test, the first occurring in the World Test Championship final in June 2023, where he scored 163 to assist Australia in claiming the title. Let’s not overlook that the left-hander’s remarkable 137 in Ahmedabad in November 2023 resulted in India losing the ODI World Cup final on home soil.

Ironically, if India loses this Test match, Head will be the main culprit for Rohit Sharma and his team once more, as the loss would extinguish their aspirations of reaching the WTC final for the third consecutive time. To heighten India’s concerns, Australia has never been defeated in a Test match when Head has made a century.
Head currently has an average of 113 in the active Border-Gavaskar series, where he also scored 89 in the second innings in Perth, and holds an average of 59.20 against India throughout his career.
