In the most recent ICC rankings, which were revealed on Wednesday, November 8, Shubman Gill overtook Pakistan Skipper Babar Azam as the No. 1 ODI batter in the world, while Mohammed Siraj regained the top spot among ODI bowlers.
Shubman Gill now has 830 rating points, while Babar Azam slipped to No.2 with 824 points. He also became the second fastest to the No.1 ranking in 41 innings. MS Dhoni remains the fastest to have got there in 38 innings.
This year, Shubman has scored the most runs in both international cricket and one-day formats. This year, he is also getting close to reaching the milestone of 2000, making history as the first hitter to do so.
Shubman Gill is the leading run-scorer in one-day internationals in 2023, but he has not really been at his best in the ongoing World Cup. Gill has so far scored two half-centuries, including a classy 92 against Sri Lanka after missing India’s first two matches due to dengue.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj, who has had a sensational year with the ball in ODIs, started the World Cup slowly but picked pace and delivered a stunning show against Sri Lanka, the same team which he destroyed in the final of the Asia Cup with a six-wicket haul in September.
