Gill overcame strong rivalry from Australia’s Steve Smith and New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips to win the award for the third time. He has previously received the honor two times in 2023 – once in January and again in September.

Gill was in excellent form in February. He accumulated 406 runs, with an average of 101.50 and a strike rate of 94.19 over five ODIs. The latter helped him grab the Player of the Match accolade, and he additionally brought home the Player of the Series trophy. He maintained that exceptional performance in the 2025 Champions Trophy with an unbeaten 101 against Bangladesh in India’s first match and then scored a tough 46 against Pakistan.

India completed the tournament without a loss and triumphed over New Zealand by four wickets in the final held in Dubai last Sunday. This marked Gill’s inaugural ICC trophy.

He was among India’s top performers in the 2023 World Cup but witnessed the team lose to Australia in the final, while at the 2024 T20 World Cup, he did not secure a spot in the main squad and was merely included in the reserves.

Gill arrived in Mumbai from Dubai on Tuesday. Similar to his fellow teammates, he looked forward to a brief respite before starting preparations for the IPL 2025 season as the Gujarat Titans’ captain.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
