Security forces have seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition during search operations in Manipur’s Meitei-dominated Bishnupur and Thoubal districts, according to a police statement released on Wednesday. The latest seizures follow a similar operation in the Meitei-majority West Imphal district on Sunday.
The operations come amid rising tensions, with Kuki-Zo activists accusing the security forces of favoring Meitei groups. On Tuesday, security forces recovered a range of weaponry from Thongkhonglok village in Bishnupur, including one SLR with a magazine, a .303 rifle, a 12-bore single barrel gun, two 9mm pistols, one anti-riot gun, two INSAS LMG magazines, four hand grenades, one detonator, five anti-riot shells, ammunition, and various other items.
