October 10: In a major counter-insurgency operation, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives from two separate locations in the Imphal Valley on October 9, 2025. The seizures underscore continuing efforts to curb illegal weapon movement and maintain law and order in the conflict-hit state.

According to official sources, the first operation was conducted at Chingkakpam Turel, Buffalo Farm, under Kakching Police Station in Kakching district, where security personnel recovered a large haul of arms and explosives. The seized cache included an AK Ghatak rifle, a G3 rifle, several single and bolt-action rifles, and multiple empty magazines of INSAS, LMG, and SMG variants. Security forces also recovered a 51 mm mortar bomb, a hand grenade, Pompi explosives, and 60 live rounds of assorted ammunition. Additionally, communication devices, protective gear, and other tactical equipment such as helmets, a bulletproof jacket, and pouches were found at the site.

Officials described the seizure as a “significant success” in the ongoing drive to prevent armed groups from regaining ground in the valley region.

Second Recovery in Imphal East

In a separate operation the same day, security forces recovered another cache of weapons from the Changsang Hill Range under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district. The haul included SBBL and DBBL guns, a country-made carbine and pistol, and 34 live rounds of assorted ammunition. Forces also seized anti-riot cartridges, a camouflage helmet, an iron plate suspected to be used as body armour, and a bulletproof jacket, marking another major success in the ongoing valley operations.

Authorities confirmed that both seizures were made within the Imphal Valley, an area that has witnessed sporadic violence and illegal arms circulation amid the ongoing ethnic unrest.

Ongoing Operations

Security forces continue to conduct search and area domination operations across the valley and surrounding fringe areas to ensure that militant elements do not regroup or smuggle weapons into the conflict zones.

Officials said the recovered weapons and explosives have been handed over to the concerned police stations for further investigation and forensic examination.

The recent recoveries are being seen as part of a broader crackdown aimed at restoring normalcy and reinforcing public safety in Manipur’s volatile heartland.
