Sanju Samson’s Controversial Dismissal Leads to IPL Code of Conduct Breach; Rajasthan Royals Captain Penalized Amidst Heated Umpiring Decision
Samson’s offense was not stated, but it might have involved him getting into a heated argument with the umpires when he was removed in the 16th over following a catch made by Shai Hope close to the boundary ropes. Was there any doubt as to whether Hope’s feet made contact with the boundary ropes during the catch? The RR captain was not pleased with the third umpire’s decision to exclude Samson. After turning to head towards the pavilion, he stopped and spoke with the on-field umpires in the middle.
Samson had an outstanding game against the DC during the match, hitting 86 off 46 balls with 8 fours and 6 sixes.
The IPL Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.8, defines a Level 1 offence as “excessive, obvious disappointment with an umpire’s decision; an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; requesting a referral to the TV Umpire and arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion about his/her decision.”
The captain of the Rajasthan Royals has previously received fines for breaking the code of conduct. The captain of the team that played against the Gujarat Titans on April 10 was fined ₹12 lakh because of the slow over rate that his team maintained.
