In a fiery show of opposition strength, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge tore into Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at a rally in Chaygaon, vowing to uproot the BJP-led government and send Sarma to jail. Both leaders also claimed that Sarma was hand-in-glove with Adani and letting him “ loot” the state’s resources.
Speaking before a massive crowd just 30 km from Guwahati, Rahul Gandhi accused Sarma of treating Assam like his personal kingdom and selling off the state’s land and resources to corporate tycoons. “Himanta Biswa Sarma considers himself the ‘king’ of Assam,” Rahul said. “And like a king, he hands everything over to Adani and Ambani. But behind all that swagger is fear.”
Taking a swipe at Sarma’s TV appearances, Rahul continued, “Look at his face on screen—he’s scared. And he should be. One day, the lions of the Congress party will send him and his family to jail. He is the most corrupt man in Assam.”
Taking a dig at the CM’s television appearances, he added, “Look closely at his face on TV—he’s scared. And he should be, because one day, the lions of the Congress party will send him and his family to jail. He is the most corrupt man in Assam.”

Rahul Gandhi further asserted that his predictions often come true. “Be it demonetisation, COVID mismanagement, or other disasters—I spoke the truth. Mark my words again: the same TV channels that show him today will show him walking into jail tomorrow. Neither Amit Shah nor Narendra Modi will be able to save him.”
He called for unity among all communities in Assam. “It won’t just be Congress leaders—people from every corner of Assam—Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, tribals—will unite to hold him accountable. Sarma is looting this state day and night, and the people have had enough.”
Confident about the upcoming Assembly elections, Rahul concluded, “We will sweep the elections next year. Assam will be free of corruption.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India, accusing it of acting at the behest of the BJP. Referring to the recent Maharashtra elections, he alleged large-scale manipulation of voter rolls to benefit the ruling party.
“In Maharashtra, nearly one crore new voters were mysteriously added to the rolls between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” Rahul said. “We suspect that the BJP lost the parliamentary polls, and the EC then manipulated the voter list to engineer a BJP win in the state elections.”
He warned that a similar pattern is now playing out in Bihar. “They are removing lakhs of poor voters—mostly those who support the RJD and Congress. We will not allow this to happen,” he declared.

Rahul also alleged that key electoral institutions were being compromised. “We must remain vigilant. The BJP, the ECI, and EVMs are working hand in glove. The Election Commission acts on the instructions of BJP leaders. Even today, we have not received the voter list and surveillance footage from Maharashtra, despite repeated requests,” he added.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused the BJP-led government of turning India into a nation for a handful of industrialists, alleging that what is happening in Assam is reflective of a broader national trend.

“What’s happening in Assam is happening across the country. In Maharashtra, too, the land of poor people has been taken away and handed over to Adani, Ramdev, and others. This country doesn’t belong to five or six industrial houses—it belongs to its people,” he said.
Rahul said India is witnessing growing inequality, with the youth facing record unemployment, soaring inflation, and the erosion of public services. “All government hospitals, colleges, and schools are being privatized. Free education and treatment are vanishing. Today, ordinary citizens are being fleeced by powerful corporate groups,” he said.
He painted a stark contrast between what he called “two Indias.”
“There is one India for the corporates, where their children can dream big, get the best education, and spend crores on weddings. Didn’t you see the Ambani wedding? And then there’s another India, where people are struggling just to survive.”
Rahul Gandhi claimed that what is happening in Assam under the BJP-led government is not an isolated case, but part of a broader pattern being repeated across India. Citing similar examples from Maharashtra, he alleged that land belonging to the poor is being systematically taken away and handed over to corporate giants like Adani and Ramdev.
“This country doesn’t belong to just five or six industrial houses,” Rahul said. “It belongs to its people. But today, the youth are without jobs, inflation is soaring, and government hospitals, schools, and colleges are being privatized. Free education and healthcare are vanishing. Now, even basic needs come with a price tag—and it is the corporates who profit.”
He painted a stark picture of a divided nation: “There are two Indias today. One is for the corporates, whose children are free to dream big. They spend crores on weddings—didn’t you see the Ambani wedding? Then there is the other India, where ordinary families struggle just to survive.”
Concluding his address with a sharp warning to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rahul said, “Look at his face on TV in the evening—you’ll see the shadow of fear in his eyes. After the elections, he will be in jail.”
Rahul alleged that the situation unfolding in Assam under the BJP-led government is part of a nationwide trend. Pointing to similar developments in Maharashtra, he claimed that land belonging to the poor is being systematically seized and handed over to powerful business figures such as Adani and Ramdev.
“This country doesn’t belong to just five or six industrial houses—it belongs to its people,” Rahul declared. “But today, our youth face unemployment, inflation is rising, and government hospitals, schools, and colleges are being privatized. Free education and healthcare are disappearing. Even basic services now come with a price, and corporates are the ones reaping the benefits.”
He drew a stark contrast between two Indias. “One India is for corporates, where their children dream big and host weddings worth crores—just look at the Ambani wedding. The other India is for ordinary people, who are struggling to survive.”
Rahul concluded with a pointed message for Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “Watch his face on television in the evening—you’ll see fear in his eyes,” he said. “After the elections, he will be in jail.”
Concluding with a sharp personal attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rahul said, “Watch his face in the evening. You will see fear in his eyes. After the elections, he will be in jail.”
KHARGE ASKS PEOPLE TO TEAC SARMA A LESSON:
Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday called on the people of Assam to “teach Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma a lesson” for allegedly selling off the state’s resources to corporate interests. Addressing a rally, Kharge asked the crowd to take a pledge to hold Sarma accountable in the upcoming elections.
“He is a looter,” Kharge said. “If you don’t stop him now, he will hand over everything—your land, your resources—to Adani. It’s your duty to stop this daylight robbery.”
Kharge went a step further, directly accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of enabling the alleged plunder. “Modi is part of this. He tells Adani to keep 50% of the looted wealth and distribute the remaining 50% to himself and the Sangh Parivar,” he claimed.
He urged the people of Assam to rise up against what he described as a corrupt regime. “You owe it to the nation to punish this corrupt Chief Minister. Justice must be done—for Assam and for India.”
Kharge also highlighted the plight of tea garden workers, alleging that they were being denied fair wages and basic labor rights. “Modi has established a rule of fear. He is terrorising everyone—be it the media or ordinary citizens. But the people of Assam will deliver him a fitting reply,” he said.
Kharge declared that a future Congress government would rebuild all the homes that were “illegally and cruelly” demolished by the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led administration in Assam’s Dhubri district. Sharpening his attack, Kharge warned the Chief Minister that jail awaited him for his actions.
“It would be wise for him to improve the conditions of the jail now—so that he has a comfortable stay there,” Kharge said, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.
