President Murmu invites Modi to form government at the Centre
President Droupadi Murmu invited Narendra Modi to form the Centre’s government on Friday, following his election as parliamentary party leader by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Modi is likely to be sworn-in as the Prime Minister for the third successive term on Sunday, June 9 , according to BJP sources.
The NDA, which includes the BJP, the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United, and Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, among others, has 293 MPs, comfortably exceeding the majority of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha. The alliance submitted a list of MPs to the President today.

PM Modi meets BJP veterans Advani, Joshi ahead of swearing-in ceremony
Following the critical NDA parliamentary party meeting on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with veteran BJP leaders LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi at their Delhi residence ahead of the two-time PM’s re-election swearing-in ceremony Sunday.
His meets with BJP stalwarts took place shortly before he was scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu to present her with a list of legislators who back him and lay a claim to form the government.
“Went to Advani Ji’s residence and sought his blessings. Every @BJP4India Karyakarta is inspired by Advani Ji’s monumental efforts to strengthen the Party,” Modi wrote in a post on X.

Newly elected MPs from the BJP-led NDA convened today at the old Parliament building to elect Modi as their leader, paving the path for him to enter office as the country’s Prime Minister for the third time. As NDA leaders convened in Parliament to identify Modi as the alliance’s leader, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu promised their support for the Modi-led NDA administration.
“Called on Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi Ji. I have learnt so much from him when I was working in the Party organisation. He is greatly respected across India for his wisdom and knowledge,” Modi said in a post on X.
Modi addressed Parliamentary meeting earlier today
Earlier today, PM Modi addressed the Parliamentary meeting that elected him as NDA Leader. As the conference began, senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh recommended Narendra Modi as the head of the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance in the Lok Sabha.
