Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has drawn attention to the heartrending plight of tens of thousands of impoverished women in the national capital and urged citizens to work together to restore the city’s lost glory.
Sharing a video that highlights the accumulation of foul-smelling water in streets and alleys, along with women describing their struggles and heartbreaking living conditions, Saxena expressed deep dismay. “It is extremely disheartening and troubling to witness the helplessness and pitiable living conditions of millions in the capital once again,” he said. Similar conditions have been reported in areas like Burari, Kirari, Kalandar Colony, Sangam Vihar, Mundka, and Gokulpuri.

Responding to repeated requests from local residents, Saxena visited Rangpuri Pahadi in South Delhi and Kapashera in South-West Delhi on Monday, accompanied by local MP Shri Ramvir Bidhuri.
“These areas, like many others, suffer from a severe lack of basic civic amenities and services,” Saxena noted. “There are no proper drainage systems, leaving narrow streets perpetually flooded with silt and dirty water. Roads are nonexistent. Electricity supply is highly erratic, and there is a severe shortage of drinking water. Women are forced to carry water in buckets from tankers that arrive only once every 7–8 days.”
Residents also voiced concerns about insufficient power supply, irregular water distribution, heaps of garbage on roads, and a complete lack of sanitation. “Many residents complained of 8–10 hours of daily power cuts while presenting hefty electricity bills, which contradict the Delhi government’s claims of free electricity,” Saxena added.
The LG instructed officials from the MCD, DUSIB, and I&FC departments who accompanied him to immediately address these serious issues. “It is essential that we provide at least the basic amenities to these residents,” he emphasized.
Residents were assured that a cleaning campaign would commence immediately, with Saxena personally monitoring its progress to ensure that basic facilities are restored to improve their quality of life.
“I urge the former Chief Minister, the current Chief Minister, and the relevant ministers of the Delhi government to visit these areas and witness these appalling conditions firsthand. Immediate steps must be taken to address this dire situation,” Saxena said, concluding with an appeal: “Let’s come together and make Delhi great again!”
