“They launched drones, but returned in desperation,” PM Modi said, crediting India’s indigenous defence systems for not only neutralising Pakistan’s attacks but also compelling them to seek an end to the conflict

New Delhi, July 29, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a forceful speech in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, detailing India’s military response to the Pahalgam massacre and outlining the decision-making behind Operation Sindoor, the largest cross-border airstrike carried out by India since the 2019 Balakot operations.
Responding to pointed questions and accusations from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Prime Minister defended the government’s actions, rejected allegations of weakness, and said India had redefined deterrence by calling Pakistan’s nuclear bluff.
“On May 9, I Warned the US: If Pakistan Attacks, It Will Regret It”
Modi revealed that in the midst of Operation Sindoor, he spoke directly with US Vice President JD Vance, who conveyed concerns that Pakistan might be preparing a major counter-response.
“I told him clearly — if Pakistan tries anything, they will face the consequences. Goli ka jawab gole se diya jayega,” the Prime Minister declared.
He added that at no point did any world leader, including US President Donald Trump, “dare to tell India to stop.”
In a pointed rebuttal to Rahul Gandhi’s earlier speech, where Gandhi challenged Modi to “show courage” and call out Trump’s alleged lie (about mediating a ceasefire), the Prime Minister said:
“India struck on May 7–8. On May 10, Pakistan called us, begging for a ceasefire. There was no external pressure — only internal collapse on their side.”
“Pakistan Begged Through Their DGMO”
According to Modi, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted India’s DGMO after suffering significant military losses.
“Their DGMO pleaded — Bahut maar khaye. Ab aur nahi jhela ja raha. Please attack rok dijiye.”
He emphasized that India had changed the rules of engagement. “This is a new India. From ‘Sindoor se Sindhu tak’, we have shown that peace does not mean submission. If attacked, we will retaliate — swiftly and decisively.”

Operation Sindoor: From Planning to Execution
The Prime Minister recounted how, after the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, in which dozens of civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists, the Indian security establishment assessed all strategic options.
“For years, we’ve heard: Pakistan ke paas nuclear bomb hai (Pakistan has nuclear weapons). They believed they could terrorize us without consequences. That belief is broken.”
Modi confirmed that on May 7–8, India launched pre-emptive airstrikes targeting multiple terror camps and launchpads across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes were carried out in just 22 minutes, with precision and minimum collateral damage.

“It wasn’t just retaliation. It was a warning to all sponsors of terror: we will find you, and we will hit back.”
“A Decade of Military Modernization Paid Off”
Modi credited 10 years of defense modernization and indigenous military capability-building for the success of the operation.
“Without the systems we built — radar networks, missile shields, AI-based drone defenses — our losses could have been huge. But our forces were ready.”
He emphasized the role of India’s multi-layered air defence grid, which included Akash, Pechora, OSA-AK, S-400, and LLAD guns, to intercept Pakistan’s drone and missile retaliation attempts.
According to officials, India intercepted 99% of enemy UAVs and missiles, preventing any damage to critical civilian or military installations.
“No One Told India to Stop. We Set the Terms”
Modi dismissed the suggestion that India bowed to international pressure for a ceasefire. Referring indirectly to US President Trump’s claim that he helped mediate peace, the PM said:
“Let the world know — India acts in its own interest. No foreign capital dictated our choices. Pakistan caved because of our power, not diplomacy.”
On Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of compromising India’s military edge by informing Pakistan that India’s airstrikes would not target military assets. He claimed this gave Pakistan time to reposition and launch drone attacks, resulting in IAF casualties.
Modi rebutted this line of attack, saying:
“We never compromised. We simply followed international military protocols to avoid escalation — but that didn’t mean we would tolerate provocations. Every move was strategic, not submissive.”
Closing Message: “India Will Not Blink Again”
In his closing remarks, the Prime Minister issued a stern warning to Pakistan and other adversaries:
“This is the new normal. We will strike. We will finish what we start. And we will not blink.”
He also called for national unity, stating that political opportunism should not weaken India’s strategic resolve.
