India’s first ever underwater metro route was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday in Kolkata. This historic project highlights the country’s progress toward infrastructural development.

Along with this, PM laid the foundation stone of multiple connectivity projects worth Rs 15,400 crore.

The Kavi Subhash Metro, Kochi Metro, Agra Metro, Meerut-RRTS segment, Pune Metro, and Esplanade section of the Kolkata Metro are among the metro train services that the Prime Minister launched.

The underwater service is a portion of Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor, which would cross the Hooghly river for a distance of 16.6 kilometers and pass through Howrah Maidan-Esplanade.

After the inauguration programme, PM Modi also took a metro ride from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan along with school children.

School children had expressed joy at traveling alongside Prime Minister Modi in India’s first underwater metro service prior to the opening.

The inauguration of the historic project occurs less than a year after Kolkata Metro created history in April 2023 when a train was driven through the underwater tunnel as part of experimental work, a first for India.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
