Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to the United States on February 12-13 for his inaugural meeting with his “dear friend,” President Donald Trump, during Trump’s second term.
The visit, set to take place in the initial month of Trump taking office, occurs alongside the US President’s tariff warnings to India and the removal of unlawful Indian immigrants.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced the visit, stating, “PM Modi will be among the first few world leaders to travel to the United States after Trump’s inauguration. The invitation for the Prime Minister to visit the US within just three weeks of the new administration assuming office highlights the significance of the India-US relationship and also indicates the bipartisan backing this partnership receives in the US.”
Trump has previously met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is scheduled to discuss with Japan’s Shigeru Ishiba this week in Washington.
