Modi’s follower count is more than double that of Donald Trump and exceeds the combined Instagram reach of several major global leaders, highlighting his unmatched digital presence.

February 26, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi achieved a historic social media milestone on Thursday, becoming the first world leader and politician to surpass 100 million followers on Instagram, underscoring his unmatched global digital reach.
Modi, who joined Instagram in 2014, now commands more than twice the following of Donald Trump, who has around 43.2 million followers on the platform. His follower count also exceeds the combined total of several other prominent global leaders, reflecting his dominance in the digital political space.

Among other world leaders, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has about 15 million followers, followed by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with 14.4 million, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with 11.6 million, and Argentine President Javier Milei with 6.4 million followers.
Domestically, Modi remains far ahead of his political peers. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ranks second among Indian politicians with roughly 16.1 million followers, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has around 12.6 million.
The milestone comes as Modi is on a two-day official visit to Israel, where he was awarded the prestigious “Speaker of the Knesset Medal” by the Israeli Parliament in recognition of his role in strengthening strategic ties between the two countries.

He received the honour following his address to the Knesset, during which he highlighted the deep historical and cultural connections between India and Israel. Modi also received a standing ovation from Israeli lawmakers and later interacted with members of parliament.
In his speech, Modi noted that ties between the two nations date back more than two thousand years, citing references to India in ancient Jewish texts and historical trade links.
The social media milestone, coupled with his high-profile diplomatic engagements, reinforces Modi’s unique position as one of the most influential political leaders both online and on the global stage.
