“I pray and beg to all content creators on social media and civil society organizations to spare our family by maligning our daughter’s reputation again and again.”

With these words, Smt. Lhingnei Haokip, the mother of late Nengtinlhing Haokip, has issued a public rebuttal condemning what she describes as repeated attempts to malign her daughter’s reputation following her death, appealing to social media users, content creators, and civil society groups to stop circulating unfounded allegations.

In a signed statement titled “Rebuttal & Condemnation for Maligning Our Deceased Daughter,” Smt. Lhingnei Haokip, addressing a platform identified as “Behind the Truth,” said her daughter passed away on January 11, 2026, after undergoing prolonged post-traumatic treatment at Apollo Hospital in Guwahati.

Describing the allegations circulating online as deeply hurtful, the grieving mother said her daughter had already endured immense suffering during her lifetime and did not deserve further indignity after death.

“My daughter was a victim of abject hatred and the height of disrespecting a woman in society,” she wrote. “She bore the shame and disrobed dignity of a woman which I, as a mother, cannot fathom for any other mother cutting across all civilized societies in the country in general and in our region in particular.”

She said such narratives amounted to character assassination and reflected a broader failure to protect the dignity of women, even in death.

Appeal Against Repetition of Allegations

In her statement, Lhingnei Haokip earnestly appealed to the public not to repeat what she called “unfounded allegations” against her daughter, noting that Nengtinlhing did not receive justice during her lifetime.

“I earnestly beg all not to repeat such unfounded allegations against our daughter who had not found justice till her death,” she said, urging society instead to stand against those responsible for spreading misinformation.

The mother emphasized that while the family has the option to pursue legal action, they have chosen restraint.

“I, and my family, would not press defamation charge to the ‘Behind the Truth’ this time out of decency,” the statement noted, adding that the family’s priority was ensuring fair and responsible dissemination of information.

The statement concluded with a call for ethical conduct and compassion in public discourse, particularly when dealing with the death of a woman who had undergone prolonged medical and emotional suffering.

Family Issues Detailed Medical Clarification

Alongside the mother’s letter, the family released a separate, detailed clarification addressing the allegations head-on and laying out the prolonged medical ordeal Nengtinlhing endured before her death on January 11, 2026.

“To those who did not walk this path with us, it is easy to speak in whispers and rumors,” the family stated. “But for those of us who lived it, the reality was a long, agonizing battle for my daughter’s life and dignity.”
