Matheesha Pathirana, the young pace sensation for CSK and Sri Lanka, withdraws himself from the Indian Premier League 2024 after suffering a hamstring injury. In a video posted on social media by CSK, Pathirana expressed his emotional farewell to the team and discussed the lessons he had learned during the season.
The 21-year-old, who claimed 13 wickets from six innings at an economy of 7.68 and an average of 13, was CSK’s second-highest wicket-taker of the season. The right-arm speedster reflected on the season and shared what he had learned, particularly from former captain MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni’s Influence; Pathirana Draws Parallel Between Cricketing Legend and Father Figure
Pathirana compares MS Dhoni to a father figure in cricket, a reflection of the significant influence the legendary player has had on his career. This comparison highlights how Dhoni helps younger players like Pathirana grow both on and off the field by serving as a mentor, advisor, and source of inspiration. Aspiring cricket players can benefit from Dhoni’s leadership abilities and wealth of experience, which give them confidence and fortitude as they face the difficulties of playing professionally. All things considered, Pathirana’s remarks highlight how highly regarded and revered Dhoni is among the cricket community, emphasizing his roles as a mentor and leader in addition to his status as a player.
Pathirana said "MS Dhoni is playing my Father's role in cricket".

Pathirana Reflects on Memorable Season with CSK; Expresses Gratitude to Teammates and Fans as Playoffs Approach
For me, it was a really wonderful season. I took 13 wickets in my six games. I believe my bowling was excellent, and I was also awarded Man of the Match. I have a lot to learn from all around me. I therefore learned a great deal from the coaching staff this season as well, as well as from seniors like Mahi Bhai and everyone else. Thus, I gained a lot of knowledge,” Pathirana remarked in the unique video that CSK released.

Indeed, leaving this kind of franchise early is difficult because CSK has become a big part of my life. Even though I adore this franchise, I have to leave early. It’s really difficult, but we’ll see. I hope to see you again next year. I genuinely want to return the love that my CSK fans have shown me since I have received a lot of it. I sincerely appreciate those fans, and I hope they will continue to cheer for both of us. I really appreciate it,” he continued.
With six victories from 11 games and 12 points overall, CSK is currently ranked third in the standings. On May 10, they will play GT, and they will be motivated to win all three of their remaining games to guarantee their spot in the playoffs.
