The Uttarakhand government has suspended manufacturing licenses for 14 of Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali products, citing deceptive advertising. Thirteen of the fourteen belong to Divya Yoga Pharmacy, a Patanjali subsidiary.
Patanjali Ayurved Faces Legal Action Amid Allegations of False Claims
This move coincides with increased scrutiny over claims that traditional Ayurvedic medicines sold by Yoga Guru Ramdev are false. The action comes in response to Ramdev’s businesses’ mounting legal troubles, which are being caused by dubious advertising tactics.
The Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority announced on April 27 that it had brought a criminal complaint for violating the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act against Patanjali Ayurved and its founders, Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna.

 Indian Medical Association Takes Action Against Patanjali’s Alleged Smear Campaign
In response to the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) appeal against an alleged smear campaign by Patanjali and its founders, Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, against the COVID-19 vaccination drive and modern medicine, an affidavit mentioning the criminal complaint was filed.
Ramdev has been under fire from the Supreme Court on multiple occasions for defying its orders in an ongoing lawsuit to halt deceptive marketing of some of his traditional ayurvedic medications. The drug regulator of traditional medicines in Uttarakhand suspended the manufacturing permits of Ramdev’s companies on April 15.
Ramdev’s Apology Rejected as Contempt Charges Loom
The Indian Medical Association has accused Ramdev’s company, Patanjali, of publishing deceptive advertisements in defiance of a court order to cease doing so. This accusation is the basis of the case against him before the nation’s highest court. Ramdev has acknowledged that his actions were a mistake, and his business has apologized to the public in newspaper ads.
He has been asking for forgiveness from the judges at the top court in recent weeks, but they have not accepted his apology. The judges are debating whether or not to charge Ramdev with contempt.
