Due to their “unruly conduct” in Parliament, one Rajya Sabha and thirteen Lok Sabha MPs were suspended. Among the members of Parliament suspended from the Lok Sabha are Manickam Tagore, Kanimozhi, PR Natrajan, VK Sreekandan, Benny Bahanan, K Subramanyam, S Venkatesan, and Mohammad Jawed. Derek O’Brien, a member of the Trinamool Congress, is the only MP suspended from the Rajya Sabha.
Among the 14 MPs suspended, nine are from Congress, two from CPM, one each from DMK, the CPI and TMC.
Previous reports stated that 15 MPs, including DMK leader SR Parthiban, were suspended. Later on, though, his name was taken off the list of suspended lawmakers. This happened as a result of accusations made by his party leaders that Parthiban wasn’t in the House.
DMK MPs have claimed that Parthiban was named among the suspended MPs even as he is not present in Delhi and is in Chennai, as per sources.
The Opposition’s demonstrations inside Parliament regarding Wednesday’s security lapse in the Lok Sabha are connected to all of the suspensions. On Thursday, the demonstrations stopped both Houses’ business and necessitated many adjournments.
