At the Paris Olympics, the United States of America won the most medals, narrowly defeating China, their bitter rivals. Up until the last competition of the Paris Games, the women’s basketball final between the United States and France, the USA trailed China’s total of 40 gold medals. The women’s basketball team helped the United States maintain their record of winning the most medals—for the fourth time in a row.
USA wins 126 medals including 40 gold
It was a fitting climax to the Games, as the United States defeated France 67-66 in a nail-biting finish. The United States completed a basketball double in Paris.
The United States won the most medals, with 126, including 40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze. China, on the other hand, finished the Games with 91 medals, including 40 golds. China last won the medal table in Beijing in 2008, with 48 gold medals, 12 more than the United States.

China dominates pool events; USA dominate track and field
While China dominated pool events such as diving, artistic swimming, table tennis, and weightlifting, the United States demonstrated its dominance in track and field events, capturing 14 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals. The Americans also dominated the pool, earning 28 medals, including eight golds.

India end a poor campaign with 71st rank
India finished in 71st place with six medals, including five bronze and one silver. Vinesh Phogat, who reached the final of the women’s 50kg wrestling, has challenged her disqualification in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), potentially adding to India’s total. Vinesh was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight during the weigh-in on the day of the final. Pakistan finished 62nd and won its first gold medal at the Games in 44 years. In the men’s javelin final, Arshad Nadeem topped the podium.
